SNAPa, in partnership with Pennsylvania Advocates for Nutrition & Activity (PANA), invites all public and private schools (K-12) in the Commonwealth to enroll in the Fifth Annual Keystone Healthy Zone campaign.
This annual campaign publicly recognizes schools for their commitment to creating and maintaining healthy schools environments by equipping them with the tools and information they need to make healthy easy…all for FREE.

The enrollment period runs March 3 – April 18. Get a jump start on your enrollment preparation by gathering your school health council and downloading the Sample Assessment at http://www.panaonline.org/programs/khz/assessment/sample_assessmentform.php.

Schools enrolling in Keystone Healthy Zone will be asked to select a healthy change goal for the coming year along the 12345! continuum, a newly developed guide for assessing energy balance (energy consumed through food = energy expended through activity).
1 – One or more hours of physical activity
2 – Two hours or less of screen time
3 – Three meals a day with family and friends (with an emphasis on
                  breakfast)
4 – Four or more glasses of water or no/low calorie beverages
5 – Five or more fruits and vegetables

In return, participating schools are able to apply for an award to help achieve this goal. Awards are evidence-based programs or promising practices for improving nutrition and physical activity. Award categories include educational programs, equipment, activities, events, and professional development. For the complete list visit: www.panaonline.org/khz

Other Keystone Healthy Zone Membership Benefits include:
·      2007-2008 KHZ School Banner to hang in school building
·      A customized report comparing individual school results with state averages.
·      An nrgBalance Award to support a healthy change goal
·      Promotional materials for participation in Enter the Zone events (Walk to (or at) School Day, Apple Crunch, Go for the Greens, and Move it Outside)
·      Regular communication about events, other grant opportunities, and free      resources to help you improve nutrition and physical activity in your school
·      Support for positive media exposure
·      Eligibility to participate in special incentive offerings throughout the year

Act now! And you can become part of a popular statewide campaign reaching more than 1,600 schools and 900,000 students this year.

Pennsylvania Advocates for Nutrition and Activity work collectively to make it easier to be healthy in the places we live, learn, work and play by changing environments to support healthier eating and physical activity options. For more information, visit www.panaonline.org
